We're hiring

Somatic & EMDR Practitioner
hold people through recovery.

A dedicated clinical role at the heart of our programme — guiding people through somatic therapy and EMDR as they move from survival mode back into their lives. This is deep, careful, one-to-one work with a vulnerable, motivated population.

Contractor role Remote · 15–20 hrs/week £2–2.5k / month Accredited EMDR required Chronic illness experience

A clinical role worth caring about.

We need a skilled, grounded practitioner who can hold complex clients safely — and help them finally let their nervous system settle.

Our clients arrive exhausted, sensitised, and often frightened. Many have post-viral illness, chronic pain, long-standing trauma, or years of being dismissed by conventional care. They need a practitioner who can meet that complexity with calm, skill, and real clinical judgement.

You'll carry your own caseload, take clients through the somatic and EMDR phases of our method, and be the clinical anchor of their experience — the person who paces the work, holds the safety, and knows when to slow down.

We want this to be a long-term relationship. As we grow, there's real scope for the right practitioner to grow into a Head of Clinical Therapy role — shaping our clinical model, leading training, and building the team of practitioners who come after you.

From Harry

Why we're building this

"I've experienced how utterly shattering chronic illness can be. The somatic and EMDR work was what finally turned it around for me. I now want to share that with as many people as possible — held by practitioners who really understand it."

On the Mend is on a mission to change the way chronic illness and trauma are treated. This role sits right at the centre of that. You won't be one therapist among many delivering sessions — you'll be the clinical heart of a client's recovery, working within a clear, sequenced method built specifically for this population.

About the role

What you'll actually do

You'll hold a caseload of clients across our six-month programme, guiding them through the somatic and EMDR phases of our method. That means running one-to-one sessions, pacing each person's progression through stabilisation and into deeper processing, and working closely with Harry and the wider team so every client is held consistently and safely.

🌿

Our method is sequenced for a reason. Stabilisation and regulation come before any deeper processing — always. We're looking for a practitioner who instinctively works this way: titrating carefully, resourcing before depth, and never rushing a fragile system toward catharsis. If that's how you already practise, you'll feel at home here.

🌱
Deliver somatic therapyTake clients through gentle, titrated somatic work — helping them soften the neuromuscular bracing patterns of survival mode and rebuild safety in the body.
🧠
Lead EMDR processingGuide suitable clients through chronic-illness-informed, somatically-integrated EMDR — carefully prepared, well-resourced, and paced to the person in front of you.
🛡️
Hold the clinical safety gateAssess readiness, flag complexity or risk, and know when someone needs more support than the programme can safely offer. Your judgement keeps clients safe.
🤝
Work as one clinical teamShare context with Harry and the wider team, contribute to case handovers, and make sure clinical information travels before a client's first session.
📈
Help shape the methodBring your clinical insight to how we refine, sequence, and eventually teach this work as we grow toward a wider training model.
The fit

Who this is right for

You'd be a great fit if you…

Are a calm, grounded presence — people feel safe with you quickly
Practise trauma-informed, titrated work as second nature — you resource before you go deep
Have strong clinical judgement and hold boundaries around scope and readiness
Understand chronic illness and pain — ideally the post-viral, nervous-system picture
Communicate warmly and simply, especially with people who are frightened or unwell
Want to be part of building something — not just delivering sessions in isolation

Essential experience & credentials

Accredited EMDR training (EMDR Europe or EMDRIA) — this is a hard requirement
Current clinical registration with a recognised body
Somatic therapy training and hands-on delivery experience
Demonstrable experience working with chronic illness and chronic pain
Appropriate professional indemnity insurance (or willingness to hold it)
💚

Hanna Somatics, Somatic Experiencing, or lived experience of nervous system recovery are all genuine advantages — but the accredited EMDR and clinical registration are non-negotiable.
